What Moves the Price of Electrical Work

Every job is priced from what we find on site, not from a menu. In an older house, the condition behind the walls usually matters more than the size of the job. These are the factors that change the number most.

After the service visit, we explain the work line by line and tell you the price before anything starts. If we find something unexpected mid-job, we stop and talk it through with you.

Condition of the existing wiring
Brittle insulation, ungrounded circuits or aluminum conductors can turn a simple outlet swap into a circuit repair. We tell you before we go further.
Panel capacity and type
Adding an EV charger, a generator inlet or a new kitchen circuit depends on open space and amperage in your panel. An older or undersized panel may need an upgrade first.
Access to the wire runs
Attic space, wall cavities with fire blocking, and finished ceilings all change how long it takes to pull new cable. Summer attic heat also limits how long anyone can safely work up there, which affects scheduling.
Materials and equipment
The charger, generator, battery system or fixtures you choose set a large part of the cost. Copper wire gauge, breaker type and AFCI or GFCI protection add to it.
Permits and utility coordination
Panel changes, service upgrades and many new circuits need a permit and inspection as required by the local jurisdiction. Service work may also need the utility to disconnect and reconnect power.

Electrical Services for Your Home

Most of our calls start with one problem: a breaker that trips, a dead outlet, lights that flicker when the AC kicks on. We fix that, and we also handle bigger projects like panel upgrades, whole-home rewiring, remodel and addition wiring, and generator installation. If an inspection flagged something, our code corrections and inspection fixes service covers it. For panels that have simply aged, a torque and clean tightens loose lugs and clears dust before heat damage starts.

About Electrician Benbrook

We are a local electrical contractor working in Benbrook and the towns around it. A lot of what we see is the result of decades of changes: a garage converted to a bedroom, a window unit circuit that became a microwave circuit, a panel that has had breakers added until there is no room left. Sorting that out carefully is most of the job.

We explain why something failed, not just that it did. If a receptacle melted, we want to know whether it was a loose backstab connection, an overloaded circuit or a bad plug, because that tells us whether the fix will last. You get the same explanation we would want in our own house.

How a Job Runs

Here is what happens from your first call to the final walkthrough.

  1. 1

You call and describe the problem

Tell us what is happening and how old the house is, if you know. We set a time for a service visit.

  2. 2

    We inspect and test

We check the panel, the affected circuits and any earlier repairs. We measure voltage and look for heat, loose connections and mismatched breaker sizes.

  3. 3

    You get findings and options

We explain the cause in plain terms, show photos, and lay out what needs fixing now and what can wait. You decide before work begins.

  4. 4

We do the work and handle the permit

We protect floors, pull the permit where one is required, and schedule the inspection. Power stays on for as much of your home as possible while we work.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and walkthrough

We test every circuit we touched, label the panel, clean up and show you what was done.

Common Questions

Why do my breakers keep tripping?
Most often, the circuit is carrying more appliances than it was sized for. Other times a hot wire is touching ground or neutral inside a box, a cord or a fixture, or the breaker itself has weakened with age and now opens early. In older houses we also find loose neutrals and failing splices. We test the circuit to pin down the real cause, since a new breaker on a faulty run just trips again.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. When a job requires a permit, such as a panel change, service upgrade or new circuits, we pull it and schedule the inspection as required by the local jurisdiction. We tell you up front whether your job needs one.
How long does a panel change take?
A straightforward panel replacement is usually done in one working day, with power off for part of it. If the service entrance, meter base or grounding needs work, or the utility has to disconnect and reconnect, it can take longer. Inspection timing also depends on the jurisdiction.
Can you put an EV charger in my garage?
Usually, yes. A Level 2 charger needs its own 240-volt circuit, so the first thing we look at is how much spare amperage and breaker space your panel has. Then we map a cable route from the panel to where you park, keeping the run short and protected. When the panel has no room left or is too small for the added load, we walk you through the choices, a panel upgrade among them.
My house has aluminum wiring. Does it all need to be replaced?
Not always. Aluminum branch wiring causes trouble mainly at connections, where it expands, loosens and overheats. Repairing those connections with approved methods is often an option, while some homes are better served by rewiring. We inspect it and give you a straight answer.
Can my two-prong outlets just be swapped for three-prong ones?
Only if a ground wire is actually present in the box, which many older circuits do not have. Putting a three-prong receptacle on an ungrounded circuit makes it look protected when it is not. Depending on what we find, the fix may be running a ground, installing GFCI protection with the proper labeling, or rewiring that circuit. We check each box before recommending anything.
What warranty comes with the work?
Our work carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. If something we installed or repaired has a problem caused by how we did the job, call us and we will come back and make it right. Equipment like chargers, generators and fixtures also carries its own manufacturer coverage, which we explain when we install it.
What should I do if I smell burning or see sparks?
Turn off the breaker for that circuit, or the main if you are unsure which one it is, and contact the fire department or your utility first. Do not keep using the outlet or fixture. Once things are safe, call us to book a visit so we can find what overheated and repair the cause.

Why Homeowners With Older Wiring Call Us

A house that has been through a few owners usually has a few layers of electrical work. Here is how we deal with that.

Credentials you can check

Our work is done under a Master Electrical License. The company holds TECL 36609 as a licensed electrical contractor, and the electricians who work in your home are licensed and insured.

We test before we guess

We use a meter, a circuit tracer and a thermal check where it helps, not assumptions. A tripping breaker can be an overloaded circuit, a failing breaker or a shorted fixture three rooms away, and each needs a different fix.

We know the old parts by sight

Cloth-insulated cable, two-prong ungrounded outlets, aluminum branch wiring, Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels, backstabbed receptacles. We recognize them, we know how each one fails, and we tell you which ones actually need attention.

Past repairs get checked, not trusted

Splices hidden in walls without a box, a 30-amp breaker on 14-gauge wire, a ground jumped to a neutral. We open things up enough to see how earlier work was done, and we show you photos of anything that needs correcting.

An honest repair-or-replace answer

If a receptacle or breaker can be swapped and the circuit is sound, that is what we recommend. Rewiring only comes up when the wire itself is the problem.
