Home Battery Backup Systems in Benbrook

A home battery backup system charges from the grid, holds that energy in battery modules, and takes over automatically when utility power fails, with no fuel and no engine noise. We size it from your actual loads, check the panel it connects to, and wire it so the transfer works the first time.

What a Battery Backup System Does in Your Home

A battery system has three working parts: the battery modules, an inverter that turns stored DC power into the 120/240-volt AC your home uses, and a transfer device that disconnects your home from the utility during an outage so power cannot backfeed onto the lines. Some systems carry the entire panel. Others power a smaller subpanel that holds just the circuits you pick, such as the refrigerator, furnace blower, Wi-Fi and a few lights.

The battery is only as reliable as the panel and wiring it connects to, and that matters most in older houses. We regularly open panels with brittle breakers, two wires crammed under one lug, or an addition that was tied in by a previous owner without a permit. A battery that switches load onto a loose neutral or an overloaded bus will expose those problems fast, so we find them before the install, not after.

The work is done under our Master Electrical License by insured electricians, and the company is a licensed electrical contractor, TECL 36609.

What Our Battery Backup Installation Includes

Outage load list and surge math
Together we decide which appliances matter when the grid is down, then total their running watts and their startup surge. Motors are the tricky part: a central AC compressor can pull several times its normal current for the first second, and that spike sets the inverter size more than anything else.
Panel and service check
We inspect the main panel, breakers, bus bars and grounding before anything gets mounted. If we find an outdated or failing panel, we explain it and price the fix separately so you can see each part of the job.
Critical-loads subpanel, if needed
For partial backup we relocate the chosen circuits to a new subpanel fed by the battery. We label every breaker so you know exactly what stays on.
Mounting and placement
Batteries and inverters need clearances, a solid wall and protection from heat. We place them on a garage wall or an outdoor-rated location that keeps them within the manufacturer's temperature limits.
Permits and utility paperwork
We file for the permit, meet the inspector when the jurisdiction calls for a visit, and send any notice the utility needs before the system is energized.
Commissioning and walkthrough
We simulate an outage, confirm the transfer, and show you the app or display so you can read charge level and load.

Signs a Battery Backup System Makes Sense for You

  • Outages keep costing you food or work

Summer thunderstorms and winter ice storms knock power out across North Texas. If you have thrown out a freezer's worth of food or lost a workday, stored power pays off quickly.

  • Someone relies on powered medical equipment

Oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines and powered beds need a steady supply. A battery switches over in a fraction of a second, so equipment usually keeps running without a reset.

  • A generator is not a good fit

Some homeowners don't want engine noise, fuel storage or the exhaust clearances a standby unit needs. A battery runs silently and can sit in a garage. If you'd rather have a generator, see our Generator Installation page.

  • Your panel is already due for work

If you are planning a panel upgrade or an EV charger, adding battery backup at the same time can share the same panel work and permit visit.

  • Lights flicker or breakers trip under load

These point to a weak connection or an undersized circuit. They need fixing before a battery is added, and we check for them during the visit.

How a Battery Backup Job Runs

  1. 1

    Service visit and load review

We walk your home, open the panel, test voltage and look at the grounding and bonding. You tell us what has to run during an outage and for how long.

  2. 2

    Written scope

You get a line-item scope showing battery capacity, inverter size, whole-home or critical-loads setup, and any panel or wiring corrections. Nothing is ordered until you approve it.

  3. 3

    Installation day

Most installs take one to two days. Power is off only while we work in the panel, and we tell you beforehand so you can plan around it.

  4. 4

    Inspection and handoff

After the inspector signs off, we run a live transfer test with you watching and explain how the battery recharges once grid power returns.

What Moves the Cost of Battery Backup

Battery systems vary widely, so we price each one after seeing your panel and hearing what you want backed up. The estimate separates equipment, labor, and any corrections the existing wiring needs, so you can see where the money goes.

Storage capacity
Capacity is measured in kilowatt-hours. Running a fridge and lights overnight needs far less than carrying central air through an afternoon, and more modules mean more cost.
Whole-home or critical loads
Whole-home backup needs a larger inverter and transfer equipment rated for your full service. A critical-loads subpanel keeps equipment smaller but adds circuit relocation labor.
Condition of the existing panel
An outdated, overloaded or damaged panel may need replacement or repair before a battery can be connected safely. This is the most common surprise in older homes, which is why we check first.
Distance from the panel
Mounting the battery and inverter right next to the panel keeps conductors short. Putting them on a far garage wall or outdoors means longer wire runs, more conduit and extra wall penetrations, and each of those adds labor.

Battery Backup Questions

Something not covered here? (682) 204-9915

How long will a battery keep my home running?

It depends on what is drawing power. A refrigerator, a few lights, internet and a furnace blower can run for many hours on a modest system, while central air drains it much faster. We work out runtime from your load list so the numbers are realistic before you buy.

Can a battery run my central air conditioner?

Sometimes. The compressor's startup surge is the hurdle, so the inverter has to be sized for it, and some installs add a soft-start device to lower that surge. We'll tell you plainly if your system can carry the AC or should leave it off.

Will my older panel work with a battery?

Many do, after the right checks. We look for worn breakers, double-tapped lugs, heat damage and weak grounding. If the panel isn't sound, we explain why and show you the panel upgrade option.

Is a battery better than a standby generator for my home?

They solve different problems. A standby generator keeps going while its fuel holds out and carries heavy loads like central air with ease, but it needs routine maintenance and it is loud. A battery is silent and needs almost no upkeep, yet its stored energy is fixed until the grid comes back to recharge it. We install both, so we can compare them honestly against your load list.

Does a battery install need a permit and inspection?

Yes. Adding a battery and transfer equipment is permitted electrical work, and we handle that paperwork as the local jurisdiction requires. The inspector typically looks at the transfer equipment, grounding, disconnects and labeling. We don't hand the system over for everyday use until it has passed.

Find Out What Your Panel Can Support

We'll check your panel, list your loads and give you a written scope for a battery that fits how your home uses power. We work in Benbrook and nearby towns including Fort Worth, Aledo and Crowley.
